At work I had one of his quotes above my desk,” sometimes we had to as despairing men, not what was the meaning of life, but what is life asking of them? “ Viktor Frankl believed in responsibility. Another of his quotes was that the US has a Statue of Liberty on the east Coast, and it would be wise to erect a statue of “responsibility” on the West Coast in order to balance out freedom! (I am roughly using these quotes from memory.)

Thank you for your lovely piece on contentment. Coming from a Buddhist perspective, I find myself reminding myself of the following: “Feeling healthy and content is not attachment. Rather, it is my natural state of rest. It is equanimity — pure, and simple.” This form of happiness may not be fully satisfying for everyone, but as it happens, my favorite flavor of ice cream is vanilla!
