Coming from a Buddhist perspective, I find myself reminding myself of the following: “Feeling healthy and content is not attachment. Rather, it is my natural state of rest. It is equanimity — pure, and simple.” This form of happiness may not be fully satisfying for everyone, but as it happens, my favorite flavor of ice cream is vanilla!

I found it to be a pertinent reminder of not only how the SMART tools have helped me to build a more balanced life as a concerned significant other, but also to appreciate all of the little joys of being alive and being content with the situation as it exists in the moment.

I am often surprised by people’s reactions when they ask me, “How are you,” and I reply,” I’m OK.” They will then say something like, ” Oh really. What’s wrong?”

To which I answer, “Nothing really, I’m OK.”
